Inkscreen helps government and enterprise customers securely capture and manage content. CAPTOR has been called a “camera app on steroids wearing a bulletproof vest”, combining photo, video, and audio capture with full document scanning, encrypted containerized storage, and IT controls to manage how content is created, stored, and shared.

CAPTOR 3.5.3: Major Document Scanning Upgrade

Josh Bohls

Beginning today and over the next week we will be rolling out a new CAPTOR app update for iOS that dramatically improves the document scanning capabilities. The goal was to streamline the scanning process and improve the quality of the resulting PDF file.

  • All new document scanning process. We wanted to streamline the document scanning process and make it more natural. It is now much easier to adjust cropping and apply color filters. For example, scanning a three page document and adjusting the crop edges for each page required 31 taps with the old process. The same workflow with the new process only requires 13 taps!

  • Auto capture for touchless scanning. CAPTOR now supports auto-capture. Just hold the device over the page and as soon as the app recognizes the outer corners it will automatically scan the page and present the result. This makes scanning multi-page documents extremely fast and efficient. In our tests it is possible to scan a perfect 10 page document in 90 seconds!

  • Improved filters (B&W, Grayscale, Color). The new filters do a better job of enhancing text. The filter can be changed during the scanning process or by tapping the thumbnail prior to saving the scan. It is now possible to apply different filters for different pages of the same document.

  • Optimized PDF files. Improving the quality of the resulting PDF is the real goal. If you are working from home and using CAPTOR to scan important documents that need to be archived, reviewed by co-workers, or sent to customers, the quality of the document is critical. This update is just the first step for improving PDF quality. Our next release will go even further to creating beautiful, clean, easy-to-read, and optimally sized PDF documents.

Please note, the update will only be evident on devices running iOS 13+. If your company still supports some devices with iOS 12, this particular app update will not be a meaningful change, however the next planned update will benefit both iOS 12 and 13 devices. More on that soon!

COVID-19 Generates Massive Expansion of Work-From-Home Programs

Josh Bohls

As the novel coronavirus sweeps across the world disrupting events and workplaces, more and more employees will be forced to work remotely. This creates cascading issues for IT including (among many others) losing access to leased office copiers and scanners. Groups of employees who rely on the office document scanner to scan contracts, forms, expense reports, etc. will suddenly be forced to use a home scanner, go to a public facility (ex. FedEx Office), or worse - rely on a consumer-grade document scanning mobile app.

The majority of popular document scanning apps for iPhone and Android devices are reliant on advertising revenue and they do not invest in security or data protections. Last year one of these apps was pulled from the Google Play Store after it was revealed to contain malware. Read our Shadow IT White Paper on this topic. In short, these have no place in the enterprise.

Since the COVID-19 outbreak we have seen a surge of interest from companies seeking a secure document scanning app for remote employees. The CAPTOR secure content capture app is a perfect solution for remote employees using a mobile device to scan paper documents, balancing productivity with IT management and data protection.

CAPTOR is built for security, providing 100% corporate control over the scanned documents and other multimedia content (photos, videos, recorded audio). At no point will content be processed or stored on Inkscreen servers (review our privacy policy for details). CAPTOR is a managed app, designed to be configured and deployed by your company's EMM, such as MobileIronBlackBerry UEM, or Microsoft InTune

Over the last five years we have added a variety of configurable options to CAPTOR, including PDF versioning (PDF/A), watermarking, metadata manipulation, backup to a content management server or OneDrive, etc. We specialize in regulated industries and government and we can deliver on tough requirements.

If your company is looking for a secure content capture app to satisfy #WFH use cases, request a trial or contact us today.

Josh Bohls

As all of our "heritage Good Technology" customers know, there is a big effort underway at BlackBerry to rebrand all of the go-forward apps and services (Good Work is now BlackBerry Work, etc). We are proud to announce that the next version of CAPTOR for Good will be released next week with a new app icon and name - CAPTOR for BlackBerry.
