CAPTOR 3.6.5 (iOS): Usability, Accessibility, Transcripts, and SMB3

CAPTOR v3.6.5 (iOS) was released this week for MobileIron, BlackBerry, and AppConfig (InTune, VMware, AppTec360, MaaS360, and many more). This was an especially beefy release so I will stick to the highlights for this overview.

  • SMB3 Encrypted Backups. Our team did a complete rewrite of our SMB data transfer protocol backup, clearing out many issues that have complicated SMB implementations. We can also now claim full support for SMB3 encrypted backups. There are no changes to the key/value pairs but if you are attempting to back up CAPTOR content to a Windows server with encryption turned on, this should now be supported. If you have any issues with this please email support@inkscreen.com and provide as much detail about your environment as possible. *For BlackBerry UEM customers, the SMB3 update is not part of v3.6.5 but will be available in the April 2020 app update.

  • Media Info Screen. When you are previewing a photo, video, or audio recording, you will see a small circular “i” button. This accesses the Media Info screen, which reveals the metadata associated with that content. This is where you would add a Note, which, if captions are enabled, would print on the border of shared photos and the final frame of a video. This is also where you can add a Custom Location, which will now be added to the caption along with the standard location (city/state or latitude/longitude) if location services are enabled. For example, a police officer may want to identify the room in the house where the photo was taken (“dining room”), but still have the precise lat/long coordinates also.

  • Audio/Video Transcripts. Also located on the Media Info screen for audio and video recordings is a new section for “Transcription”. If Speech Recognition is enabled by EMM policy -and- the end user has allow the iOS Speech Recognition permission, transcripts will be displayed here. For this release, you cannot edit the transcript, but you can copy the text and paste it into an email or other document (as allowed by your EMM container policy).

  • Share Screen. When you are ready to share some content (attach to an email, upload to a fileshare, etc) you will notice the share screen has been updated. CAPTOR now allows you to modify the location format and PDF version (if not locked by policy) right at the point of sharing. This provides the user the ultimate flexibility and experience.

  • Accessibility. This is the third app update released since December 2020 that includes changes to support app users with limited vision or dexterity, and we are not done yet. This coincides with the publishing of a VPAT report, which can be found here.

  • Enhanced Search. We made some tweaks to the search process. We are really excited to offer this unique search feature. Be sure to enable Speech Recognition by EMM policy so that your users can get the full Search experience. Enhanced Search uses OCR and Speech Recognition to identify spoken words (audio and video recordings) and printed text (photos and documents), all of which is now searchable.

  • FIXED! MobileIron would occasionally interrupt audio recordings if the UEM policy required the user to touch the screen to extend the secure session. The app now keeps the session active until recording has stopped.

  • FIXED! When MobileIron required the user to re-authenticate, CAPTOR would quit and require the user to re-launch a new session. Now after re-auth the user can seamlessly resume the CAPTOR session.
